Footage from recent solar challenge competition.

We are the Solar Pirates. We proudly represent the first team from New York City and one of the only three teams in New York State to participate in the Winston Solar Car Challenge. Our goal is for this year is to build a new carbon fiber / kevlar car. Although this goal seems unachievable for high school students, with the right mind set and commitment, anything is possible. You can view our current progress and photos here.

The work done on our previous solar car, our new solar car, as well as this very website, is done completely by students, with the help and supervision from our teachers Mr. Dazzo, Mr. D'Ambrosio, and Mr. Giordano. The work being done on our new solar car would not be possible without the help of Mr. Cabe, as well as our many sponsors which can be viewed here. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding our club, feel free to contact us here.

"Don't you love when our borough's students shine bright? The Nicotra Foundation does too, and the Tottenville High School "Solar Pirates" are a #StatenIslandStory you'll love-- the work done to build and modify this solar car is done COMPLETELY by students. It wasn't sunny yesterday afternoon so my pics are dim, but this solar car is a bright idea and The Lois & Richard Nicotra Foundation has proudly supported the Tottenville students who design and build this futuristic car. The array of solar cells on the car power the vehicle without ever plugging in or filling up. The JCC Tottenville High School Solar Car Team is raising funds for their journey to Dallas, Texas this July 14th to compete in their largest competition yet. Their Club Moderator and STEM educator, Charles Dazzo, shares that competitions and showcases are the students' focus right now: "We are going from Dallas, Texas to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our Green Tech Solar Car Team from Tottenville High School is now the exclusive school team that is representing New York City and State."
